Judd Mercer – Gouache Painting Fundamentals: Color

While values are the most important aspect of painting, colors are the most fun! In this course, we’ll break down the basics of color in clear, applicable ways. We’ll ease into color theory and get a handle on spotting colors, mixing, and applying paint.

Using gouache, an opaque water medium, we’ll discover through a few exercises and demos just how to manipulate color and mix paint. By painting small and with a limited palette, you’ll get the hang of mixing colors without ending up with a lot of mud. After this course, you’ll be able to knock out quick color studies to improve your studio work or to venture outdoors and continue your plein air journey with confidence.
